Camino de Santiago: Day 11

Camino Day 11

Note to self: Take care of your 3 remaining socks! Burnt one at the attempt to quick-dry them with a hairdryer while having breakfast ;). Usually, I dry my second pair (yes, I have only 2 pairs with me) while walking, but two nights ago I was too lazy to do the laundry. Towards the end of the day I had to make a tough decision… and decided to leave my friends again and continue on to Villafranca Montes de Oca. After all, I want to reach Burgos tomorrow.

Camino de Santiago: Day 10

Camino Day 10

Best evening so far! After a rather grumpy start into another 30 km day – and a little sightseeing on the way – we managed to get an entire house in Grañón for just the five of us! Even better, Iva and Kathi served the best dinner on the entire Camino … what a treat after the usual pilgrim’s menus in the restaurants! Combine that with lots of fun watching soccer together… love you guys!!

Camino de Santiago: Day 9

Camino Day 9

Reunited! What a difference a day of rest (only 18 000 steps yesterday) can make: my knee is pain-free (and will stay so for the rest of the trip!). And: Tonight, I’m going to catch up again with Iva, Kathi, Rüdiger and Torsten in Nájera. Yippee!! :)

Camino de Santiago: Day 8

Camino Day 8

I love Logroño! Last night I was mesmerized by this lively city and decided to take a day off and stay. Feels great to be an ordinary tourist for a day and go shopping in a big supermarket (instead of the tiny shops in the small villages). Inviting bars and cafes, pleasant temperatures, short skirts … great atmosphere :)

Camino de Santiago: Day 7

Camino Day 7

I’m torn between walking longer distances and spending time with my newfound friends. Today, I decide to leave them behind and walk 10 more kilometers – and spoil myself with a hotel room in Logroño and over an hour in the bathtub :). Now, into the nightlife…

Camino de Santiago: Day 6

Camino Day 6

My right knee is killing me: Every step hurts, and my bandage isn’t helping any longer. But tonight we are staying in comfy Casa Austria in Los Arcos … enjoying the luxury of a dorm room for just the five of us, and indulge in tasty rye bread for breakfast! You see me smiling? :)

Camino de Santiago: Day 5

Camino Day 5

32 km in the sweltering heat!! And hardly any tree in sight today. Time to equip everyone in our group with a proper hat in Estella, where we stay tonight. My walking gear (hat included) proved to be excellent so far, and doing the laundry in the evening and taping our blisters in the morning has become routine by now.

Camino de Santiago: Day 4

Camino Day 4

The Spanish heat is punishing! It’s only May 31, but maybe we should follow other pilgrims’ lead and get up around 4:30 a.m. to avoid walking during the hottest hours. Lucky for us, the incredibly friendly owners of a hostel in Muruzábal know how to treat our pain (blisters!) and lift our spirit again :). Our group is growing: Iva joined us in Pamplona, and in the evening we meet Jörg (both from Germany).

Camino de Santiago: Day 3

Camino Day 3

Walking the Camino feels fantastic. The landscape is gorgeous and I meet so many crazy characters and wonderful people from all over the globe… I love it! Tonight, our small group will reach Pamplona, the first bigger city on this trip. Ready to see some running bulls? ;-)

Camino de Santiago: Day 2

Camino Day 2

You meet the most amazing people on the Camino that make you forget sore muscles and blisters. Fun day with Rüdiger, Torsten, Kathi and Ines (all from Germany) on my way to Zubiri … which turned out to be the beginning of a wonderful friendship :)

Camino de Santiago: Day 1

Camino Day 1

The beginning of 900 long kilometers, unforgettable experiences, and wonderful friendships. Enthusiastic start in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, France; across the Pyrenees to Roncesvalles (27 km).
